A Call to Our Artist Friends
/si:n/ س
In Praise of the High Shadow
(Based on the poem by Mahmoud Darwish, In Praise of the High Shadow, written in 1982 during the siege of Beirut and after the Sabra and Shatila massacre, and read by him in Algeria in 1983 before the Palestinian National Council.)
In 2024, the 8th /si:n/ biennale is in exile. It will be sheltered by Festival les Instants Vidéo in October in Marseille and we hope elsewhere in the world after that.
‘The biennale refuses to remain silent, or to be silenced. Nor will it abandon the territory where it was born. It will make a stopover in Ramallah.
The biennale will not leave the stage. ACTION! Let the images flow. Let the pictures speak for themselves.
‘The biennale will be written in the same way as a film, through editing. The images will invite spectators to move to discover other territories. They will offer forms and spaces of resistance to erasure and invisibility.
‘What if we were to imagine a cloud museum (Sahab project) to reflect on the question of tracing as a gesture of resistance to oblivion and dislocation, or even as the writing of one’s own history, a history that is also written in the future tense.
‘And for a poetics of relation, we will cultivate the power of light towards artistic and cultural solidarity in the smallest spaces of the biennale’.
Dear artist friends,
If you have a film that resonates with the words above and if you wish to express your solidarity to the people of Palestine, you can propose your film (maximum 10 minutes) to be presented during the biennale /si:n/*.
The deadline is very short: June 21.
The selection will be announced by the end of July.
The work submitted must be in French or with French subtitles (embedded or attached). If this is not possible, the work must be accompanied by an English .srt subtitle file that the Qattan Foundation will translate.
To submit, send the film through the service We Transfer, online at https://wetransfer.com/, to the email: inscription@instantsvideo.com.
Warm regards,
*/si:n/ video art and performance biennale was cofounded in 2009 by A.M. Qattan Foundation and Les Instants Vidéo, supported by a group of cultural organisations in Palestine.
In the first such experience of its kind in Palestine, the biennale travels to several cities (Ramallah, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Gaza…) and presents Palestinian and international art works.
