(Gaza – A.M. Qattan Foundation):
Children of the Chess Course participated in a final chess tournament organised by the Child Centre – Gaza (CCG) / A.M. Qattan Foundation. The tournament was a culmination of the Chess Course, which the CCG offered in the context of the Winter 2019 events in the period between 7 and 21 January 2019. The course brought together 24 male and female children, aged 10 to 15 years. In this course, children learned basic skills of chess.
Anas al-Shami, 12 years old, scored first in the chess tournament. Zeina al-Hindi and Farah al-Mukhallalati, both 12-year-old girls, won the second place. Omar al-Ghafir, 11 years old, got third place.
Commenting on how much she benefited from the course, Zeina al-Hindi said: “I loved to make use of my time during the winter break and improve my skills in chess. This is a game of intelligence and tactics. I learned new things in the course.”
The course was delivered by Leila Abu Sharar, chess coach and member of the Palestine Chess Federation.
The CCG organises chess activities and course all year round with the aim of stimulating children to think creatively and acquire needed skills in chess.
