On Thursday, 13 December 2018, the Educational Research and Development Programme (ERDP) held a scientific seminar, titled Landfill Leachate: Problems and Solutions. The seminar was part of the Landfill Leachate project, led by the ERDP Library members in Gaza.
The seminar brought together 41 participants, including teachers, ERDP Library members, and visitors. The seminar opened with an introductory presentation on the its locations and contents of landfill leachate used in agriculture. Mr. Husam Hamdounah, a member of the Landfill Leachate project, screened a video film, including interviews with farmers and environmental specialists. In an ensuing session, Dr. Ahmed Hilles, Consultant and Water and Environment Specialist, talked about the ingredients and management of solid waste.
A presentation was also made by Engineer Nizar al-Wahidi, Director General of the Guidance and Development Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, addressing agricultural fertilisers, composting, and the impact of landfill leachate on agriculture.
The seminar was concluded with a presentation by Dr. Mohammed Abu Heibah, CEO of AknanTech for Integrated Technical Solutions. Dr. Abu Heibah shared AknanTech’s experience in manufacturing organic fertilisers, using environment-friendly organic solid wastes, which do not contain hazardous substances on the soil.
