the Child Centre - Gaza (CCG) of the A. M. Qattan Foundation organised recently, an interactive encounter with mothers on the project-based learning technique. This is one of another three techniques of the STEM in Library programme.
Bringing together almost 29 CCG member mothers, the encounter was moderated by Assef Al-Khozondar, Assistant Coordinator of the CCG Library Services.
In a participatory and interactive setting, mothers had an enriching experience. They worked on designing application projects, which showed variation between different climates and environments.
On her participation in the encounter, Hiba Sha’ath said: “The trainer asked our group to provide a practical application of a project, which would help to disseminate the concept of the desert environment to children. We discussed the theme and proposed more than one idea and more than one technique.”
Describing her participation in the encounter as the most wonderful experience, Sha’ath added: “We came up with a simple and realistic idea, which revolved around a lady who visits her son in the Naqab Desert Prison. We used a dialogue-based storytelling technique and reflected details of the desert environment in the presentation we made to our colleagues in the encounter. They were happy to see one another for the first time.”
The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programme combines science, technology, engineering and mathematics with stories in order to disseminate complex concepts to children, using simple and interesting techniques. It relies on the three strategies of project-based learning, investigation-based learning, and problem solving-based learning.
The encounter is part of the Dardashat (Parents Chats) programme, which the CCG offers to parents. It allows an open space to address a variety of themes related to children with a view to raising their awareness and building their capacities in different areas. Dardashat also furnishes an opportunity for parents and professionals to share their experiences from various disciplines, consolidating values of voluntary community action.
