The Child Centre - Gaza organised a field visit to the General Directorate of Fisheries' Marine Environment Monitoring Department at the Gaza Port, on 11th February 2020. Students of Atfaluna Society School for Deaf Children participated in the visit through the “Fab Lab” programme for children with hearing impairments.
Engineer Waleed Thabet, General Director of Fish Farming at the Ministry of Agriculture in Gaza, welcomed the children and accompanied them on a tour of the directorate, introducing them to its facilities. The Children explored the marine environment and its various components, and saw different types of fish. They also saw some laboratory operations and analyses of fish scales and internal bones used to identify the age of the fish and to determine their types. They learned how to measure the lengths and weights of the fish. They also looked at rare fish on a tour of the fish museum, and saw those available in local markets during a visit to the market in Gaza City known as the "Hesba."
The “Fab Lab” programme provides a free scientific space for children with hearing impairments as part of the 2020 spring programme cycle at the Child Centre - Gaza. It aims to allow them to delve into the enjoyment of science and its exploration, in a manner consistent with their physical and intellectual abilities. The programme runs until the end of April 2020.
