The A.M. Qattan Foundation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation organised an open day to introduce interested candidates to the “Culture, Art and Social Engagement” project’s application process, on 17th February 2020.
Dozens of people interested in applying attended the event, including individual artists, groups, teams, and cultural and artistic institutions. A summary of the project was presented, in addition to an explanation of the way it is implemented at the Foundation through the Educational Research and Development Programme and through grants offered by the Culture and Arts Programme. The attendees were also introduced to the project’s vision and goals, in addition to projects previously funded.
The attendees learned about the requirements that must be met in proposals submitted in order to increase chances of obtaining support, and to achieve the desired effect in the community. The projects must be based on an understanding of the local community in which they will take place, and the ability to build genuine partnerships with these communities. They must also demonstrate that the people responsible for the project believe in the ability of culture and the arts to bring change, and have the necessary passion to motivate those around them to join their efforts in pushing the process of change. Additionally, the proposals should aim to increase participation and social accountability.
During the open day, details of the application form were presented, and an explanation of important items given. Some examples of previous successful projects were also presented.
