Book Launch: The Bereavement of Martyred Palestinian Children: Gendered, Religious and National Perspectives" by Maram Masarwi
Time and Location: at A.M. Qattan Foundation in Al-Tira, Ramallah, at 6:00 p.m.
This book examines the phenomenon of individual and collective bereavement in Palestinian society. It seeks to explore the boundaries of the discourse of bereavement and commemoration in that society through interactive relations between religion, nationality and gender, and the ways these influence the shaping of the mourning process for Palestinian parents who have lost their children in the second (al-Aqsa) Intifada. Over the course of the book’s five chapters, Maram Masarwi scrutinises how these components have shaped the differences in behaviour between bereaved fathers and bereaved mothers: what characterises these differences, how they are expressed and how they have managed to shape the characteristics of the experience of Palestinian bereavement.

Suzan Hijab: Retrospective Exhibit
Time and Location: at A.M. Qattan Foundation in Al-Tira, Ramallah, at 6:00 p.m.
Through the lens of a woman, a migrant in Germany, a complex individual, and above all a Palestinian, Suzan Hijab’s exhibition lays bare the physical and emotional states that one undergoes when dealing with transformation and change in a place away from home.
The artist examines both the state of departure as a rupture and as a mechanism for continuous modification and adaptability in paintings of pastel on paper and acrylic on canvas. The paintings reveal a certain compartmentalisation of several mundane scenes, some probable while others imaginary, exploring the overlaps of the outer physical postures of the body with the traces of its inner self and tribulations.

The Forensic Architecture: Assembled Practices Exhibitio
Time and Location: at A.M. Qattan Foundation in Al-Tira, Ramallah, at 6:30 p.m.
Assembled Practices exhibits investigations conducted by the London-based research agency Forensic Architecture in collaboration with communities affected by and resisting state and corporate violence, environmental destruction and human-rights violations.
Over the past decade, their practice has mobilised a ‘counter-forensic’ gaze, attempting to turn the state’s means against the violence it commits. In doing so, Forensic Architecture’s interventions have brought together open-source media and data, placing it in critical conversation with material collected on the ground, involving physical traces and human testimonies.
Relying on the creation of a broad community of practice, their techniques introduce new types of evidence, new modes of intervention and new public forums for accountability and dissent.

The film The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant, with its insightful exploration of the nature of relationships, is considered one of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s (1945-1982) most controversial films.
