The Programmers’ Club at the Qattan Centre for the Child won the first place award at the Gaza Startup Weekend, held from 22 to 24 August by Mercy Corps’ Arab Developer Network Initiative (ADNI), in partnership with Google.
Gaza Startup Weekend aims to encourage pioneering projects in the fields of computer science, technology and business management.
Khaled Shahata, Lina Shahata, Nadin Al Banna and Hazem Al-Hayik from the Qattan Programmers’ Club worked for three days developing a computer game called Plants World, which is an entertaining, educational game full of suspense. This is the first time a team from the Arab world has participated in this event.
The awards ceremony was attended by computer science students and specialists, and the Qattan team was awarded prizes including technical training and funding to help them finish their project.
Since 2007, the Qattan Programmers’ Club, which aims to identify and develop skills of children with special interest in technology, has been a place where children can develop their skills in the latest technology and programming.
