At the request of Ramallah Municipality, the Foundation presented to the city council on 11 August, the study prepared by the Walid and Helen Kattan Science Education Project on the Interactive Science Centre (ISC). The ISC is intended to be built in Ramallah, in partnership with the Municipality.
The Mayor of Ramallah, Musa Hadid, overviewed the latest progress in the study, and highlighted the importance of such a centre in the city. Dr. Nader Wahbeh, Director of the Walid and Helen Kattan Science Project, presented the study which was submitted to the Municipality last April. Wahbeh explained the objective and expected impact of the Centre, and presented its programmes, target groups, venues, cost, sustainability and governance.
Furthermore, AMQF Director-General, Ziad Khalaf, spoke of Ramallah’s history and importance as a centre of attraction to people from across Palestine. He highlighted the vital role education played in the city’s standing, which makes it the ideal location for the Centre. He underlined the projected impact of the Centre on the city and education in Palestine in general.
QCERD Director, Wasim Al-Kurdi, presented the Foundation’s preparatory initiative to establish the Centre. He informed the audience that the Foundation allocated a budget for the next two years to support training of a qualified team capable of designing and building interactive exhibits, as well as a budget to establish a workshop equipped with the necessary machines and tools to build the exhibits.
