AMQF Hosts Group Exhibition "Gaza - A Moment of Becoming" in Ramallah on 9 March 2024
The A. M. Qattan Foundation is excited to announce its group exhibition, “Gaza - A Moment of Becoming,” opening on 9 March 2024, at the Al Qattan Cultural Centre, Ramallah. This unique art show is an initiative bringing together diverse talents: artists, activists, technicians, and designers. In collaboration with prominent institutions like the Palestinian Artists’ Association, the Forum for Visual Arts, Hosh Al-Fann Palestinian Art Hub, the Palestinian Museum and Birzeit University Museum, the exhibition responds powerfully to ongoing efforts to isolate and besiege Gaza.
Gazan artist Basil Al-Maqousi, creating art from a displacement tent, shares, “I draw to remain a conscious, sensitive human being, resisting war’s attempt to strip away my dignity and humanity.”
The exhibition highlights the solidarity of the Palestinian artistic movement. A significant portion of art sale proceeds will support the artistic community in Gaza, defiantly resisting the annihilation and violence faced by these artistic productions. Focussed on the historical context of artist experiences in the 1970s and 1980s, marked by the challenge of Israeli military occupation, the exhibition contributes to discussions on the role of art and artists in the current phase of occupational aggression. It also questions the values and artistic practices needed now, aspiring to shape a new, flexible, and resistant narrative against the brutal machinery of colonization in the present and future.
Featuring over 160 artistic works, the exhibition is designed to be a living experience, evolving through audience interaction. Accompanied by discussions and dialogues, it addresses pressing questions about the current phase of aggression and formulates a manifesto serving as a clear artistic reference for both the present and the future.
