Jointly with Madrasati Palestine Initiative, the Educational Research and Development Programme (ERDP) of the A. M. Qattan Foundation (AMQF) organised a workshop on Drama in Education in Amman. The workshop was held on Saturday and Sunday, 14 and 15 October 2017.

The workshop brought together male and female teachers of Jordanian government schools. ERDP Director Wasim Al-Kurdi and Researcher Motasem Atrash presented an introduction to drama as an art and context for learning. The presentation covered primary drama, making clear the roles both teachers and students play in drama. Engaging participants in practical applications, Al-Kurdi and Atrash provided an overview of key elements of drama in education.

Al-Kurdi and Atrash also accompanied three graduates from the Summer School: Drama in a Learning Context, which the AMQF has been organising for 11 years in the city of Jerash. These were Mousa al-Wahsh, Khamis Hujeir and Sana’ Fat’hi.

This workshop is a constituent component of an extensive and cumulative programme, which the AMQF and Madrasati Palestine Initiative will implement. The joint programme offers courses around the year and keeps track of teachers’ applications at school.

It is worth noting that this is not the first partnership between the AMQF and Madrasati PalestineInitiative, which was launched by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan in 2010. Many workshops on drama had already been organised. Also, the second round of a long-term training programme in cinema culture will be launched next month, targeting male and female school teachers in Jerusalem.
