Ramallah- (A.M Qattan Foundation):
On Monday 29 July 2019, the Culture and Arts Programme (CAP)/ A.M. Qattan Foundation launched the exhibition entitled “Alternative Interventions in Abu al-Nuwar” curated by Palestinian artist Raouf Haj Yahya at the Foundation’s building in al-Tireh neighbourhood in Ramallah.
The exhibition features photography and a short animated film produced by the children of Abu al-Nuwar Bedouin community, in addition to a short video depicting the relationship of the project with the local population of Abu al-Nuwar. Alongside the exhibition, a book on artistic interventions in marginalized areas was published.
This exhibition concludes the “Alternative Interventions in Abu al-Nuwar” project, which was launched in winter 2017. The exhibition launched its activities with a five-month photography workshop with a group of children from Abu al-Nuwar community, in coordination and collaboration with the Bedouin Silver Tent Association. In Summer 2018, the project was developed within the “Culture, Art and Community Engagement” project co-funded by A.M Qattan Foundation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
Several specialized art workshops were organized throughout the project including a Creative Writing workshop with Palestinian writer Ziad Khaddash, an animation workshop in collaboration with “Masna’ al-Rusum al-Mutaharrikah” led by Bassel Naser, in addition to the production of a short video about the relationship of the project with the community of Abu al-Nuwar in collaboration with journalist Shuruq As’ad.
The project aims to shed light of the reality of Bedouin communities in the area stretching between Jericho and Jerusalem such as communities in Abu al-Nuwar, Almahtoush and Khal an-Ahmar, through publishing a book on artistic interventions in marginalized areas.
