As part of the “Extracurricular Activities for the Children of Wajd Programme – Fourth Year” project, the Child Centre- Gaza recently concluded the summer 2019 activities. The project benefited 340 children through activities which included creative writing, choir, dabke, computer, arts, science and sports such as; football, karate and volleyball. The project aims to inspire creativity and innovcation in children.
Within the context of the concluding events, the Centre organized two closing ceremonies with the participation of children from al-Ruwwad Association for Palestinian Youth in Khan Younis, and Beitna Association in the North of Gaza. The two ceremonies included choir and Palestinian traditional dabke performances, theatrical performances inspired by the children’s writings, in addition to literary readings. Sports activities were concluded with a final tournament for football and volleyball, and karate performances.
A science and arts exhibition was also inaugurated, in which the works produced by children during their participation in the project’s activities were displayed.
The Welfare Association – Taawon launched the Wajd Programme in partnership with the Qatar Fund for Development; the main donor of the programme, with generous contributions from the Bank of Palestine and Haj Hashim Atta Shawa Charity Fund to support orphans of the 2014 Israeli Assault on Gaza. The programme aims to enable orphans to live in dignity and strive to achieve their ambitions and dreams, to become active members of their community.
