CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR A RESIDENCY

at Matadero Madrid Centre for Contemporary Creation,

Madrid, Spain

The A.M. Qattan Foundation and Matadero Madrid Centre for Contemporary Creation (http://www.mataderomadrid.org/) launch an open call for Palestinian artists to apply for the “Community Art Practices” residency in Madrid, Spain. Two artists will be selected for the residency. Eligible candidates should meet the following conditions:

  1. Be a Palestinian artist working in the field of the visual arts and/or have a background/work in architecture in Palestine.
  2. Have been working in the field for at least three years and have already exhibited your work in individual or group exhibitions.
  3. Have valid travel documents, and be aware that accepted candidates will be asked to take a leave from work for the whole period of the residency.
  4. Be fluent in English (speaking, writing and reading)
  5. Be committed to the residency programme, cooperate with the supervising committee at Matadero, and commit to returning to Palestine once the residency period ends.
  6. The project submitted should be in line with the main theme of the residency: “Community Art Practices”.

Residency period: 23rd September - 8th December, 2019

This residency offered by the A.M. Qattan Foundation and Matadero Madrid includes:

  • Round trip travel from Palestine to Spain.
  • Accommodation in the Matadero Madrid residency flat for the whole period of the residency.
  • A grant to cover the participating artist’s fees, per diems, any extra travel and visa costs, and production money.
  • Follow-up with the artist on his/her work and fostering encounters with the Spanish art community.
  • The opportunity to participate in a collective exhibition of the work of residency artists to take place at the end of November. The work will also be part of a publication that will accompany the exhibition.

Selection Procedure:

A.M. Qattan Foundation will prepare an initial shortlist of candidates. A committee from Matadero Madrid will select two Palestinian artists from this shortlist to participate in the residency. Final results will be announced by 15th June, 2019.

  3. A letter explaining why you are interested in the residency (max. 1 page)
  4. Biography / CV (max. 2 pages)
  5. Detailed description of the project you intend to work on (max. 3 pages)
  6. Production and technical needs, including the type of space required for the activity (classroom, assembly hall, exhibition hall, public space, etc.)
  7. Detailed budget
  8. Work plan (timeline) for production and realization of the activity
  9. Any reference images (optional)
